£2.95 Add to basketDwarf French Beans – Brittany Haricot (Organic) ***NEW FOR 2024***
Plump round bean with purple marbled pods best enjoyed half-dry . If this bean was grown in the Cotes d’Amor region of Brittany, it would be called Coco di Paimpol. With a creamy nutty flavour this Haricot bean is traditionally sold at French markets demi-sec in pods and enjoyed in hot and cold dishes.
We received a packet of seeds in the post from one of our customers with a note saying that they had been saving their own seed from this variety for over 6 years since they lived in Brittany.
Best harvested when the beans in the pods are fully formed and semi-ripe. It freezes really well, avoiding the need for
soaking overnight if dried. Great as a warm salad or in casseroles.

Lettuce – Devil’s Tongue (Organic)

A dark red spring lettuce with tapered cos-like leaves forming loose heads at maturity. Bred by lettuce breeding wizard Frank Morton, this variety has a very buttery texture and thick leaves.
This is not a pure-line variety, as evidenced by its black and white seeds, but a multiline “landrace” of similar looking (but genetically distinct) sub-lines. Most of our ancestors’ staple crops, their legumes and grains, were also multi-lines. The genetic diversity of these farmer-varieties was the original crop insurance against the vagaries of nature.

A beautiful and early salmon-pink radicchio variety forming loose heads from October. This one is a real show-stopper! A really unique radicchio making the most exquisitely pink leaves unlike no other leafy veg we have grown before.
‘Jolanda’ is an early selection of Rosa (which often tends to be a later-cropping type) so it’s much better suited to the UK climate.
Bred by our friends and plant breeding wizards at Smarties.bio in Italy. (Approximate seed count – 100)
