Red Onion – Tropea Lunga (Organic)

£2.50

Extremely sweet pointed red onion sought after by chefs around the world. This is probably Italy’s most famous onion. It comes from the Tropea region which has the perfect climate for onion growing.

The pointed pink bulbs have a very high sugar content making them perfect for caramelising. Indeed some say they are so sweet you can eat them like apples! Each to their own, but you get the point…

Spacing: 25×10cm

Onion tips: For the best onions sow in January indoors with heat. Alternatively they can be sown from February under cover. They should be transplanted in April to their final growing position.

Onions can also be direct-sown from March in drills 25cm apart, spacing seeds 1cm apart within the drill. They should then be thinned to 10cm spacing once established.
