We wanted to include Brighton amongst our lettuces because it is one of the best and biggest winter hardy butterhead types there is. It has glossy dark green leaves and medium-sized heads. Sown in September, it can be cultivated outside or undercover for continuous picking or left to mature for an early spring harvest.

This pretty heritage variety of bean has been passed through the weathered hands of generations of gardeners since the 16th century. As the pods fill out with beans and dry they develop a delightful maroon and cream pattern, great for long storage and comforting winter stews. An award-winning maincrop variety, also ideal for storage over the winter months. How could we not include Autumn King in our catalogue?! This is one of our favourite varieties, and certainly lives up to its name. It is an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner and is a firm favourite amongst both home and market gardeners.
It produces conical roots up to 30cm long and with a deep organgey-red colour. It is sweet-tasting and delicious both raw and cooked.
Autumn King is a great carrot for storage over the winter. To store the roots place them in containers in single layers in moist (but not wet) sand making sure they do not touch each other. Keep them in a cool but frost free and dark place and check the roots periodically for mould or rotting.

Pale blue, pink and white flowers on upright, bushy plants with feathery foliage. Nigella flowers or ‘love-in-a-mist’ are a popular and traditional cottage garden flower. The blue, pink and white solitary flowers appear to sit on a bed of ‘misty’ foliage, hence the common name. The plants get about 50cm high and the blossom is followed by a decorative, inflated seed capsule that also makes a nice addition to cut flower arrangements.

A beautiful mix of white, pink orange and yellow flowers on plants 40cm tall. Strawflowers (also known as ‘everlasting flowers’) are a beautiful addition to the garden. They are perfectly suited for drying, just cut the stem before they are fully open and hang in bunches upside down in a dry place out of direct sunlight. They are also great as a fresh flower for use in bouquets. We love the bright colours in this mix, they remind us of colourful boiled sweets!

A tall variety with deep orange-red petals and pale outlines. This is a wonderful variety of tagetes which grows taller than the classic French marigold. The petals have a deep colour and almost appear to glow like burning embers.

A quirky dwarf variety producing fluffy ultra-double blooms. This unique sunflower is named Teddy Bear due its very soft pompom like blooms with almost no smooth centre. The plants have a branching habit so will produce multiple flowering stems on each plant.

A delightful minature version of pak choi, Baby Choi is perfect for those seeking a quick and tender Asian green. This versatile brassica offers a mild, sweet flavour with a satisfying crunch, making it ideal for stir-fries, salads and steamed as a side dish. Ready to harvest in just 30 days after planting (50 days after sowing), it can be picked as a whole plant or leaf by leaf for prolonged harvests. Keep Baby Choi well-watered, especially during hot weather, to prevent it from bolting.

Very vigorous, tall-growing mangetout with violet flowers and ever-so-sweet pods. Heraut are delicious raw, when picked young and still flat, steamed or stir-fried, fantastic in salads and you can eat them ‘pod and all’. They produce an early crop of sugar snap peas on productive and hardy plants. If picked regularly, more growth is encouraged.
This variety is quick to be ready to harvest and has a great taste, too. So much so that we couldn’t resist snacking on it while growing it.

Robust Batavia variety forming a loose head with slightly frilled, maroon tinged leaves. Grenoble Red or Rouge Grenobloise is a Batavian heirloom lettuce with waffled leaves that are tinged with a maroon colour. It’s tolerant to the cold and has an ability to grow for longer than most varieties when its outer leaves are repeatedly picked off. While it is an excellent winter variety, it can also be sown in the spring and summer too.

Extremely productive red cherry tomato bred for its fine flavour. We consider this a farm-original variety as we have done extensive improvement on the original. We have been stabilising the line for 5 years and it’s now ready to send out into the world !
The plants have been selected each year for the best flavour and excellent productivity. One of our volunteers thought that the fruits tasted like mango so we named it Mango Lassi. We hope you enjoy it. We would appreciate any feedback you have on it.
