Rocket Seeds
Growing suggestions for rocket seeds
Grow outdoors from March-April or August-September or in greenhouses in late winter February-March or September. Direct drill rocket seeds in rows 15cm apart or sow in seed trays or modules. To extend the outdoor season on either end, cover rocket with horticultural fleece to keep the cold at bay, and you could be cropping right through to first frosts.
Crop history
Rocket originates in the Mediterranean area. The Romans grew it for both its leaves and the seed which was used to flavour oils. In the UK it’s known to be used in salads since Elizabethan times. But only recently it’s enjoyed an enormous growth in consumption and appreciation. All of the plant including the leaves, flowers and seeds are edible.

Salad leaf with a peppery fresh taste, most commonly used raw but can be cooked, too. The nutritious dark green serrated leaves add their fine spice to salads, pasta, pizza, pesto, other sauces or as garnish. Salad rocket is native to the Mediterranean and has a long history of popularity. It is quick to crop and easy to grow and definitely one of our favourite salad leaves.

Delicious and spicy serrated leaves, smaller and more delicate than their cultivated cousin. We love wild rocket as it just keeps on giving, even once it is going to seed it continues to produce new leaf growth if you cut it back.
