A lovely hardy biennial wildflower and herb with lance-shaped leaves and yellow flowers that open in the evening. Loved by bees, butterflies, and moths. The nutrient-rich seeds, which contain gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), are used medicinally, and the leaves and flowers are also edible.
Evening primrose thrives in full sun in poor, well-drained soils and needs little maintenance once established. As a biennial it will create a rosette of leaves in the first year, and flower in the second year, but self-seeds readily, so will usually appear year on year once established.
