We like planting it in between food crops as an ornamental divider.

A vigorous Japanese type bunching onion producing stems up to an inch in diameter. Ishikrona is definitely one of our favourites. It is beautiful in every way with fresh green coloured leaves and a bright white stem. It is succulent, mild and sweet in flavour, fresh and crispy in texture. It is extremely hardy as well as pest resistant and it stands in the ground for a long time without bulbing up.
As an important ingredient of the Asian cuisine, it can be used in stir-fries, soups and salads. It can be used instead of or alongside onions.

Golden orange with red flowers that have a feathery fragrant foliage. Tagetes is a very rewarding plant. It is easy to grow and produces an abundance of stunning yellow to red coloured flowers. It also makes a great companion plant as the scent is disliked by flies and other insects and the roots produce secretions that have insecticidal and nematicidal (against harmful nematodes) effects. It can also be planted in pots or containers and will embellish gardens, doorsteps and balconies.

A Bolivian variety suited to cooler climates producing abundant yellow chillies with a citrus punch. Criolla Sella is a prolific producer, rewarding growers with an abundance of colourful, elongated pods throughout a long growing season. With a delicious flavour and moderate heat the chillies are perfect for salsas or sauces but can also be dried and ground into a flavourful powder. The plants are robust and easy to grow, making them an excellent choice for both novice and experienced chilli enthusiasts. SHU of around 25,000 to 30,000 on the Scoville Scale.

Hot Biscuits is a fantastic addition to any cutting garden, producing tall blooms of striking copper plumes that look fantastic fresh or dried in a bouquet or arrangement. It’s easy to grow and produces an abundance of stems that pair fantastically with dahlias, sunflowers and rudbeckias. Standing up to 120cm tall, it’s also an edible plant with leaves that can be cooked like spinach and seeds which can be used as a gluten-free flour or cooked as a nutritious grain.

Robust Batavia variety forming a loose head with slightly frilled, maroon tinged leaves. Grenoble Red or Rouge Grenobloise is a Batavian heirloom lettuce with waffled leaves that are tinged with a maroon colour. It’s tolerant to the cold and has an ability to grow for longer than most varieties when its outer leaves are repeatedly picked off. While it is an excellent winter variety, it can also be sown in the spring and summer too.
