An excellent hardy spring onion variety that produce bunching onions from autumn and that stand through winter. Evergreen are a non-bulbing spring onion and have a mildly, sweet flavour, ideal for salads and stir fries. Remarkable chilli/pepper variety of sweet flavour with a fruity heat. Discovered by Adam Alexander in a market in Donetsk, Ukraine in 1989, this sweet and gently spiced pepper has been grown in South Wales ever since with plants selected for earliness and flavour. The fruits are slightly ribbed, flattened, and about the size of an apple. When eaten fresh they are exceptionally sweet, crunchy, and full of flavour, with a subtle heat towards the top of the fruit that makes them per definition a chilli, although we think of it more like a pepper.
Plants are short, stocky, and very productive, with red fruits that hold well once ripe. They can be grown outdoors in a sunny spot or under cover.
Firm favourite across the Vital Seeds team and number one winner of our 2023 pepper and chilli trials.

Slow growing variety, also known as rapini or broccoli rabe. This variety is ready to harvest within 150 days and can be grown all year round, although best sown April-May. It is slower to make heads and bolt than San Marzano, making it slightly easier to grow.
Prized as a delicacy in Italy for its sweet and slightly bitter taste, cima di rapa translates as ‘turnip greens’, the plants produce large serrated edible leaves much like a turnip and delicate flowering florets. The leaves, stems and florets can all be eaten.
