Mild tasting green leaves that form dense, conical heads; alternative to winter lettuce.. This is a more mild tasting chicory that is a superb substitute for lettuce in the winter. Indeed, this is a common practice in several rural parts of France and no doubt elsewhere, too. It can produce very large heads, with a tender green exterior and golden yellow hearts that have a real sweetness to them, hence the name!

Herbaceous perennial plant with spires of lilac/ purple flowers that are hugely attractive to wildlife. Korean mint grows up to 1m tall with flowers that are particularly interesting to hoverflies and bumblebees. It is one of the core 50 herbs in Chinese medicine, and makes a delicious tea which has a minty liquorice flavour. Once established the plants will expand gradually in a clump, which can be divided every few years.

A white zinnia variety ideal for the cutting garden. Polar Bear is a dahlia-flowered zinnia producing an adundance of large white flowers with pale yellow centres on tall stems that keep going the more you pick.

Very dark red loose-leaf variety, with striking arrow-shaped leaves. This is definitely one of our favourite varieties of lettuce. It is productive and easy to harvest as well as being crunchy and extremely tasty. It adds a real depth of colour to any salad with leaves that are almost black!

A round pale green courgette with a delicate skin and fine flavour. If you’re looking for something a little bit different in your courgette patch, Tondo di Nizza would be a good choice. It is an Italian heritage variety that provides you with an abundant crop of round courgettes. Best harvested when approximately 10cm in diameter, just before the skin darkens in colour.

Cultivated as leafy vegetable that can be used like spinach. Hardy and succulent vegetable that is similar to spinach in taste and texture and can be used in cooking and salads. It is frost-tender but ready for harvest when true spinach will have long gone.
It’s relatively easy to grow and very ornamental with its triangular shaped leaves and a trailing growth habit.

This pretty heritage variety of bean has been passed through the weathered hands of generations of gardeners since the 16th century. It’s the ultimate all-rounder providing plentiful flat smooth skinned green pods. As the pods fill out with beans and dry they develop a delightful maroon and cream pattern, great for long storage and comforting winter stews. An easy to grow climbing bean with great drought tolerance and plentiful abundance.

Small sweet pepper variety from Tuscany traditionally used for pickling. An Italian pepper with the occasional hint of spice. Pepperoncini are often pickled in vinegar, made into delicious antipasti or cooked whole, served with classic Italian foods like pizza or pasta dishes.
This variety belongs to the same family as bell peppers and hot tobasco chillies. Pepperoncini is an annual that favours hot, fairly dry summers. Normally harvested when glossy green, the pretty long wrinkly peppers turn red and exquisitely sweet if you leave them on the plant. Perfect for a little snack straight off the plant and a favourite when roasted or barbecued, served with olive oil and flakes of sea salt.

A beautiful lupin variety producing towers of hot pink spires. With strong branching stems and densely packed petals, the blooms make an ideal cut flower and look great as an ornamental addition to the garden border.
